THE RISE OF AESTHETIC SURGERY IN THE FIRST DECADE OF THE 21th CENTURY: USA SAMPLE
Aesthetic surgery as a subbrunch of plastic surgery has made it possible for people to recreate their bodies. Everbody is trying to get “ideal beauty” promised by aesthetic surgery and shown by popular culture and media on hundreds of channels. One of the main arguments of this study that focuses on the rapid rise of aesthetic surgery is the law of sexual selection. If the law of sexual selection is ignored, attempt to explain the reasons of the rapid rise of aesthetic surgery in the first decade of the 21th century will be insufficient. The parts of the body where the aesthetic surgery operations are intensified are the indicators of this reality. The statistics about aesthetic surgery operations in the USA strengthen the existence of aesthetic criteria accepted by a huge majority regarding body. The miracle created by aesthetic surgery in the 21th century has made the fact of age -one of the most important parameters of sexual selection- seriously relative.

21. YÜZYILIN İLK ON YILINDA ESTETİK CERRAHİNİN YÜKSELİŞİ: ABD ÖRNEĞİ
Plastik cerrahinin bir alt dalı olan estetik cerrahi, insanın kendini bedensel olarak da yeniden yaratmasını mümkün kıldı. Herkes estetik cerrahinin vadettiği, popüler kültürün ve medyanın her gün yüzlerce kanaldan sergilediği “ideal güzelliğe” ulaşmaya çalışıyor. Estetik cerrahinin hızlı yükselişinin değerlendirildiği bu çalışmanın temel argümanlarından biri “seksüel seçilim” yasasıdır. Seksüel seçilim olgusu göz ardı edilirse 21. yüzyılın ilk on yılında estetik cerrahinin hızlı yükselişinin nedenlerini açıklama çabası eksik kalacaktır. Vücutta cerrahi estetik operasyonların yoğunlaştığı bölgeler bunun göstergesidir. ABD’deki estetik operasyonlara ilişkin istatistikî veriler, beden konusunda geniş bir kitle tarafından kabul edilen estetik ölçütlerin varlığını desteklemektedir. 21. yüzyılda estetik cerrahinin yarattığı mucize, seksüel seçilimin en önemli parametrelerinden biri olan yaş olgusunu ciddi biçimde göreceli hâle getirmiştir.
